Job Description
To provide clerical and receptionist support to nursing unit personnel.

- Answers inquiries, and provides assistance to the nursing personnel, medical staff, patients and visitors.
- Coordinates nursing unit and interdepartmental communications utilizing patient intercom, pneumatic tube, messenger service, telephone system and computer.
- Enters patient charges in the computer.
- Manages supplies and equipment for the department.
- May float as assigned by Staffing/Asst. Director of Nursing.
- Prepares and maintains patient record information.
- Prioritizes daily work and makes adjustments.
- Processes admissions, transfers, discharges and deaths.
- Provides orientation and training of unit clerks and nursing personnel.
- Provides other clerical support such as copying materials, obtaining medical records, scheduling exams and procedures, securing patient valuables.
- Transcribes and accurately enters physician's orders and procedures in the computer.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired, required.
- One year related hospital and clerical work experience is required or a combination of experience and education that provides the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the job, required.
Medical terminology background preferred.- Typing ability of 30 words per minute preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively with strong interpersonal skills required.
