Your new team
This position of Research Scientist is in the Process Upscaling Department within Process Development, R&D. Process Development sets the standard within production of bacterial cultures in Chr. Hansen. The function has extensive expertise regarding development of robust and feasible fermentation and downstream processes for production of bacterial cultures. Our core activities are to design and develop fermentation and downstream processes at lab-scale and at pilot-scale to scale-up and implement the production processes in Chr. Hansen’s manufacturing plants globally. For this work, the department has laboratories and access to Pilot Plant facilities suitable for extensive experimentation, data logging and the use of advanced techniques for measurement of biomass quality. In our Process Upscaling Department, you will reinforce the existing team of 11 competent and engaged colleagues working in a creative environment. The department cooperates with internal and external stakeholders across different geographical locations, CMO/CROs, universities and research institutes both nationally and internationally.

In this scientific position your responsibilities will focus on developing manufacturing processes for Lactic Acid Bacteria for various applications in food and health and to implement these at production scale.

During this work it is expected that you:
- Work closely together with stakeholders from project management, global application development, commercial development, other functions within R&D, and global operations
- Are comfortable working in a project-based organization and when needed can represent our department as a project lead
- Conduct upstream and downstream process development, validation activities, and characterization activities of biologic products, incorporating Design of Experiments (DoE) where applicable
- Can troubleshoot production issues by using experimental data.
Who are we looking for?
You hold a PhD or M.Sc. degree with some work experience within bioprocessing, fermentation technology, process technology or chemical engineering or a similar field. Preferably, you have prior experience in working with fermentation and process development of Lactic Acid Bacteria.

You like to be hands-on with your work and find innovative solutions together with your colleagues in the laboratory. You work independently and systematically, and you are quality-conscious and keep an elevated level of documentation of your work.
